Eyes on the Prize

Ridgway, Nicole

Forbes Asia;10/17/2005, Vol. 1 Issue 5, p32
The article reports on the firm called Eyeonics founded by eye surgeon J. Stuart Cummings and J. Andy Corley. Cummings, the British-born ophthalmologist had discovered in 1989 that the eye's ciliary muscle still functioned in even his oldest patients, opposing the long-held view that it atrophied by the time most people started needing reading glasses. This discovery was critical, if a lens could be manipulated by the muscle, it could accommodate for all distances, just as a youthful eye does.
