ABSTRACT
The article reports on the increase in number of women lawyers in the past three decades in Detroit, Michigan. Detroit's 10-largest law firms shows that local women lawyers may be doing slightly better than the national average, but still trail men significantly. A study by the Washington-based National Association for Law Placement found that 17 percent of partners in major law firms in 44 large cities across the country were women. That's up from 1993, when about 12 percent of partners were women. The State Bar of Michigan's numbers for active attorneys show women at between 28 percent and 30 percent in the past three years.
