ABSTRACT
The article presents information on Pitchfork, an eleven-year-old Web magazine that reviews music albums. The main thing that distinguishes Pitchfork from the Rolling Stones and Spins of the world is its focus on album reviews that are aimed at helping the overwhelmed listener. Other features on the site include breaking news about the independent music scene, interviews with musicians, and others. The Pitchfork staff does have forty hours a week to spend filtering through new music. New releases come in at the rate of 500 to 700 every month from record labels, promoters, and musicians who hope to catch the staff's attention. It is not every day that the Pitchfork staff finds real gems in those bins, but when it does, the critical world listens.
