ABSTRACT
The article reports on the Vertical Systems Group Inc.'s report which states that the accessibility to direct fiber connectivity has increased for all segments of U.S. businesses. However, the increase is still low, reaching less than 12 percent of all medium to large sites. According to Vertical Systems, fiber should take advantage of new types of service offerings such as Gigabit Ethernet and IP video. Rick Malone, principal at Vertical Systems, affirms that purchase decision for new network services are being stalled because few medium to large enterprises have direct fiber feeds to all their business sites. Moreover, an additional aggressive fiber deployment plus technology advances are needed to defeat the obstacle in industry growth.
