ABSTRACT
The article discusses the experiment that took place in several telecommunication company including AT&T and Verizon Corp., with Qwest Corp. and Sprint Corp./Nextel. Twenty-two years ago when AT&T Corp. was divvied up, a carrier competition dominated in telecommunication industry. There was a spirit of cynicism that took over during the two decades. There were also many technologies that evolved out of the old Bell Labs. However, today, the experiment has ended. Communications technology continue to advance. Moore's Law remain in effect, and the demand for robust multimedia and multimodal communications are increasing.
