ABSTRACT
The article reports that Alcoa Inc. has forwarded an application to the Environmental Management Authority of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for clearance to build an aluminum smelter in southwestern Trinidad. In addition to the smelter, Alcoa also intends to build an associated anode plant and cast house. Alcoa has also increased its stake in the Estreito hydropower project in Brazil from 19.08 percent to 25.49 percent through its purchasing of BHP Billiton shares.
