ABSTRACT
The article reports on the inability of British supermarkets to cut their costs resulting from their failure to cultivate long-term relationships with suppliers. Supermarkets must foster a climate that will give their trading partners the confidence to invest. There is little investment in automation in the food manufacturing industry because they use the wrong tools in building a case for automation.
