The article reports that convenience retailers in the U.S. have been doubtful when it comes to investing in technology. While few operators dispute the benefits of automated systems, from scanning and pay-at-the-pump to backroom automation and business intelligence software, the industry has been somewhat slow to adapt these technologies, in part due to their high cost. On the other hand, a study revealed that spending on technology and automation has increased significantly over the past year. Loss prevention and security remain top priorities for convenience store operators as they relate to controlling internal shrink.
