Consumer-Driven Care and Hospitals: No Smoking Guns, No Silver Bullets!

This article presents excerpts from a presentation to the Colorado Hospital and Health Association on September 8, 2005 in Vail, Colorado, which focused on issues relating to consumer-driven care. Differing views of several health executives concerning consumer-driven care are presented. It has been projected that by the end of 2006, 26 percent of businesses in the U.S. will offer consumer-driven plans. Companies that have been switching to consumer-driven plans include Aetna, Humana, United, Textronic, Medtronic and Toys R Us.
