ABSTRACT
The article assesses the possible market share to be obtained by West Bridgewater, Massachusetts-based Shaw's Supermarkets and Star Market in New England, with the backing of its parent company Supervalu in 2006. The large part of New England's market share is held by its rival company, Stop & Shop. The acquisition of Albertsons' New England division by Supervalu presents a moment for Shaw's to exploit Royal Ahold's weakness and pull ahead of Stop & Shop in the crucial Boston, Massachusetts market.
