ABSTRACT
The article reports on the new rules related to the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act for lenders in the U.S. Under the rules lenders are urge to make public data about a loan applicant's race, sex, income, and information about how the lender determines rate spreads for different applicants. Steve Ornstein, a partner at Thacher Proffitt & Wood, states that policy conflicts on how loans are priced for different groups of customers can create lending patterns which will appear discriminatory.
