ABSTRACT
The article focuses on Serban Ghene's work as a music mixer with the set of Teddy Riley. He studied at Concordia University while playing with some local band and most recently has built his own studio at Virginia. It is noted that the notion of the extended mixing process that he experienced with Riley set a template for his own transition to mixing, and it is one that meshes well with the fact that R&B and hip-hop is moving toward the use of more live instrumental elements.
