ABSTRACT
The article presents a summary of a round table discussion on the health benefits of exercise. Even though it is generally accepted that exercise has a positive effect on may aspects of health, a large percentage of adults remain sedentary. The article presents the findings of a round table series that discussed the cardiovascular, lipoprotein, weight control and psychological aspects of exercise. The Public Health Service of the U.S. has reported that fewer than 20% of adults exercise regularly enough to have any positive cardiovascular health benefits. The main problem is the difficulty in adhering to an exercise program, with dropout rates of 50% after 6 months to one year.
