ABSTRACT
The article reports on the efficiency of the U.S. Military in implementing electronic patient records. A study conducted by the Medical Group Management Association in September 2005 shows that only 11.5 percent of all the medical practices have fully applied an electronic patient-records system. This is the scheme pushed through by U.S. President George W. Bush aiming to have all patient records digitized by 2014. However, such deadline is said to be too aggressive due to the legal barriers and slow development of standards. The Department of Defense is in its process of casting out the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application in favor to the system.
