The article reports on the abandonment of the Mental Health Bill which was welcomed by campaigners but has warned that the British government's alternative plans could extend the use of compulsory treatment in Great Britain. British health minister Rosie Winterton has announced that the government will amend the Mental Health Act 1983 in March 2006. Rethink CEO Cliff Prior commented that the government was trying to present the removal of the treatability test as a way of helping people.
