ABSTRACT
This article reports on a plan by China to expand its number of nuclear power plants in operation by 2020, as of January 2006. China is also working to become self-sufficient in the design and construction of nuclear reactors, as well as other aspects of the fuel cycle. For their parts, the U.S. and Russia are both providing strong financing and support arrangements for the current and planned reactors.
