ABSTRACT
The article deals with the benefits of the self-checkout systems for supermarkets. Self-checkout systems will generate transactions worth $161 billion in 2005, according to the 2005 North American Retail Self-Checkout Study. While a retailer hesitates to adopt the system, it is potentially losing customers to those competitors that adopt the technology.
