The article explores the efforts of U.S. operators to find or expand bandwidth to accommodate capacity-heavy high-definition (HD) channels and channel-bonded high-speed data services. Operators are pressured to expand bandwidth to accommodate the growth of video-on-demand and data. Optical Entertainment Networks has already launched an all-HD TV production company. Charter Communications Inc. is planning to use switched broadcast technology to squeeze enough bandwidth.
