ABSTRACT
The article focuses on psychological needs provided by work and the nonfinancial aspects of retirement readiness. With the rise of life expectancy of many men and women in the developed world, retirees will live longer in the state of retirement. The author discusses the ways that workers rely on work to organize their lives. Employment fulfils five essential psychological needs including: an income; a structure to organize time; a purpose; social status; and opportunities for socialization.
