ABSTRACT
This article reports on an encouraging start seen by the London Metal Exchange (LME) in convincing producers of the benefits of the LME contracts to polypropylene (PP) and linear low-density polyethylene (lldPE) as a tool for hedging and price benchmarking, as of March 2006. The LME is looking at shorter-dated contract terms for lldPE and PP that could be more representative of spot prices in the physical markets. The exchange is developing the metrics for an 18-month review of the contracts, including assessing what proportion of production contract trade has represented.
