ABSTRACT
This article reports on the plight of Christians in Iraq. The Christians have no militia to defend them, as do other religious sects in the country, and are prey to kidnappings and other forms of violence. Christians are routinely brutalized by Shia, Sunnis and Kurds alike. Many of the Christians, who are Eastern rite Chaldean Catholics or Assyrian Orthodox Christians, have fled the country. The Chaldean Patriarch in Baghdad, Emmanuel Delly, maintains that Christians are not subject to persecution.
