ABSTRACT
The article reports on the world crude steel production for the 61 countries determined by the International Iron and Steel Institute in January 2006. Crude steel production for the 61 countries was 94.7 million metric tons, a five percent increase compared to the same month of 2005. The largest steel-producing country is China with production up to 30.3 million tons in January. Crude steel production in the European Union countries was 15.8 million tons.
