ABSTRACT
There are 79 species and varieties of Pottiaceae in the Valley of Mexico representing 52% of the total (151) known for the country. These are present in all types of vegetation within an altitudinal range of more than 3000 m; most are widely distributed in Mexico and in the world, 12 species have disjunct distributions, 6 are endemic to Mexico, and 11 are new records for the Valley of Mexico.
