ABSTRACT
The article presents information related to the 1975 documentary Grey Gardens, which was later performed as a musical theatre. The work of composer Scott Frankel, lyricist Michael Korie and book writer Doug Wright, who won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize in drama for his play "I Am My Own Wife," the musical theatre depicts the daily lives of Edith Bouvier Beale and her middle-aged daughter, known as Little Edie, in their decrepit mansion in East Hampton, New York City. The squalor in which they lived is startling because Big Edie, as Beale was called, was Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' aunt. It was Frankel's idea to turn Grey Gardens into a musical theater.
