ABSTRACT
The article explains why Asia lags behind North America and Europe in mobile virtual network operators(MVNO). According to the author, Asian mobile markets are still driven primarily by price and handsets, unlike in North America, where creative mobile businesses are emerging. Asian regulators are unwilling to push operators to open up to virtual players. The author remarks that Asian firms are unable to leverage brands, which is the strength and potential of the MVNO. It is suggested that mobile operators should adopt the wholesale market as an opportunity to lease out their infrastructure and information technology service.
