The article profiles Robert Blake, who was England's greatest admiral. He hated the restrictive atmosphere of the House of Commons, and with the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642, he took up the new, active role of soldier. He was given command of a company in the Parliamentary forces defending Bristol, which was soon stormed by a Royalist army led by Prince Rupert of the Rhine.
