The article looks at the U.S. federal Women's Health Initiative's study on diet. While the study did not find that a low fat diet reduces the risk of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and heart disease, it did find that women who started out eating more fat and cut it reduced their risk of breast cancer and the low-fat group had fewer colon polyps. The study did not distinguish between "bad" saturated and trans fats and "good" fats. Polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fat might be protective.
