ABSTRACT
The article presents information on "Kalamazoo Promise," a scholarship program which managed to revive the city Kalamazoo in Michigan. It is informed that schools play a very important role in community success. Real estate agents perpetuate the myth that suburban schools are better and this led to steering of newcomers. This steering had a deadening effect on real estate market of Kalamazoo. But "Kalamazoo Promise" managed to hold the city together. This scholarship guaranteed all graduates of the local public school system free tuition for an indefinite period at any public university or community college in Michigan.
