ABSTRACT
The article presents news briefs relevant to environmental protection and relevant laws in the United States compiled as of January 2006. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has granted Hilmar Cheese permission to drill a test wall to inject wastewater from its cheese factory underground followed by an instruction for the company to pump the salty remnants below the local aquifer. Representative Richard Pombo has attemptedto fast-track oil-shale development in the West in early December 2005, proposing to offer a lease for potential oil shale lands.
