Merrill in Talks to Hand Asset Business to BlackRock

The article reports that Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. has talked to BlackRock Inc. to cede its asset management business in exchange for a large minority stake in the firm in a deal that would create the third largest municipal mutual fund family. Both firms also manage a municipal bond hedge fund. Under the terms of the deal, Merrill would acquire a stake in BlackRock.
