ABSTRACT
This article reports that Ameriprise Financial Inc., the financial planning firm that American Express Co. spun off in September, has won a charter from the Office of Thrift Supervision to establish a savings bank. The Minneapolis company plans to organize Ameriprise Bank as a wholly owned direct subsidiary in New York. It is to assume the retail banking and trust business currently done by American Express Bank, which is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
