ABSTRACT
This article reports that companies like Arcelor SA and ThyssenKrupp have increased their bids to take over the Canadian steelmaker Dofasco Inc. Ekkehard Schulz, chairman of the executive board of ThyssenKrupp, remarked that the strategic value of Dofasco has prompted the company to increase the bid price. Arcelor CEO Guy Dolle claimed that the company's new offer tries to fulfill the strategic objective for Arcelor--expansion in the North American market. Dofasco is a leading North American company which provides steel solutions with lines that include hot-rolled, cold-rolled, galvanized, Extragal, Galvalume and tinpiate flat-rolled steels, as well as tubular products, laser-welded blanks and Zyplex, a proprietary laminate.
