ABSTRACT
This article reports that Stephen Lander, the Law Society of Northern Ireland's independent commissioner, last week concluded three years of work examining complaints-handling by praising the society's progress. Lander also recommended more work in the future. He has been examining attitudes within the solicitors' profession to complaints. He said that close attention needs to be paid to the terms of the government's forthcoming white paper on legal services if the society is to be allowed to develop effectively. He now assumes the role of a lay member of the society's new regulatory board when it begins work in January 2006.
