ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the 2006 Olympics. Heading into past Olympics, there were few statistics to gauge a goalie's potential for success in a shootout. Among Olympic goalies who have faced 10 or more shots in NHL shootouts, the top three entering the week were Martin Brodeur, Henrik Lundqvist and Marty Turco. U.S. coach Peter Laviolette, a member of the 1988 Olympic team and captain of the 1994 team, has one lasting sentiment from his time at the games. Laviolette said everybody was over there with the expectation of being the best and bringing home the gold medal.
