The article reports on recent developments in the field of education in the U.S. Currently, a hearing has started within the U.S. Senate on "The Second Chance Act (H.R. 1704)." Companion legislation is also under consideration in the Senate under the bill number S. 1934. The Second Chance Act, reportedly, will support research and coordination of services related to prisoner re-entry and rehabilitation. According to the sources from the U.S. Department of Education, several new initiatives are to be taken concerning higher education for prisoners. In this regard, the Higher Education Act has been scheduled for reauthorization. Under the higher education profile, Transition Training for the Incarcerated Youth Offenders Program is contained. The Institute for Higher Education Policy has received funding from the Ford Foundation to do a series of policy studies related to college access by specific sub populations. The U.S. Office of Elementary and Secondary Education has recently issued a report, titled "Self Study Toolkits."
