This article reports that Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle asked the Legislature to authorize special-purpose revenue bonds to encourage the construction of affordable houses in the state. Lingle's request is independent of the bonding which has been already specified in the preliminary budget for fiscal 2007. She said, special-purpose revenue bonds have proven to be a successful tool for funding private schools, hospitals and economic development projects. According to Gary Kitahata from Kitahata & Co., the bonds Lingle referred to would likely be conduit financing for affordable housing.
