ABSTRACT
This article presents information about the monthly business activity survey which reveals that overall manufacturing activity in the Fifth District continued to weaken in January 2006. The survey is conducted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. The data show that the manufacturing index declined to negative 4 in January from negative 2 in December 2005. Volume of new orders remained at negative 2. Capacity utilization index fell to negative 7 from positive 2. The number of employees index increased to negative 3 from negative 6 and the wages index also dipped to 7 from 8.
