ABSTRACT
This article presents information about the recent trend in the municipal bond market in the U.S. On January 24, 2006, several sizable new issues came to the market and Treasuries sank into negative territory amid supply concerns. Municipal yields were not changed, as arbitrage accounts continued to put large blocks of bonds out for the bid in the intermediate sector but still received firm bids. According to the traders, supply/demand imbalances and largely range-bound Treasuries are being benefited by tax-exemption.
