ABSTRACT
The article provides an overview of oaths and codes of ethics which are undertaken by public officials in the United States. Codes of ethics are taken positively by elected and appointed public officials. Codes are expected to have a positive influence on these officials. Oaths are provided in some jurisdictions to promote ethical practice. The article provides an example of an oath signed by employees of a local government. Many administrators are of the belief that there is a significant contribution of codes and oaths in an ethical workplace.
