Portable Design;Feb2006, Vol. 12 Issue 2, p2
The article comments on engineering challenges in the design of portable electronic products, citing the influence of constraints of power consumption, weight, size and time-to-market. Different modulation and coding techniques have emerged to better communicate with portable devices, including orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing which was designed to support high-speed data transmission over wireless links in multipath environments, such as cell phones. On the other hand, multiple-input-multiple-output systems were designed to increase channel capacity by increasing the number of antennas.
