ABSTRACT
The article presents information on developments related to baseball in the U.S. The Cleveland Indians added power-hitting prospects 3B Andy Marte and C Kelly Shoppach and RHP Guillermo Mota, a setup reliever. New Detroit Tigers' hitting coach Don Slaught will work with 1B Carlos Pena and 3B Brandon Inge on reducing their strikeouts, hitting for contact and improving their two-strike approach. The Boston Red Sox's new 2B Mark Loretta should be a perfect fit as the No. 2 hitter if his thumb is healthy, and 3B Mike Lowell is confident he can regain his stroke while continuing to play Gold Glove-caliber defense. The New York Yankees' 3B Alex Rodriguez and SS Derek Jeter are as good defensively as any left side in baseball, but 1B Jason Giambl is below average and 2B Robinson Cano isn't polished.
