ABSTRACT
The article discusses a recent indication from Federal Reserve Board Governor Susan S. Bies that regulators will not ease their position on the risks in commercial real estate, despite complaints that proposed guidelines would hurt community and regional banks. Banks with "significant concentrations" of commercial loans may need to strengthen internal controls and hold capital above regulatory minimums, Bies said in a speech to the Financial Services Institute.
