ABSTRACT
The article reports on the conditions and trends in India's petrochemical industry, as of May 2004. India's robust economic performance in 2005 has resulted in renewed optimism in the country's petrochemical industry. Polymer demand is estimated to have grown by 9-10 percent in the financial year ended March 31, 2004. The robust performance of almost all petrochemicals in fiscal 2003-2004 came despite the price spiral early in the year which dampened demand and threatened to upset producers' forecasts. India's GDP is estimated to have expanded by 8.1 percent in 2003-2004.
