The article discusses the mileage programs offered by the airline industry in the U.S. Customers have taken full advantage of the programs, but the additional value to the airlines' business has been marginal because the flight service was not authentically exciting. These loyalty programs are proof that customers cannot be fooled. To build true loyalty, companies must address the type of product that will trigger loyalty.
