The article discusses the author's experience in ice fishing with his nephew on a bay of the Hudson River near Saratoga, New York. An hour after setting up, they saw a distant flag and a pike had taken every inch of line. His nephew struggled with tending the line and getting the fish out of the water. The pike they got was the biggest fish he has ever seen caught through the ice.
