ABSTRACT
This article discusses this week in African-American history. On January 30th, 1979, Franklin A. Thomas became president of the Ford Foundation. He directed millions of dollars into projects for minorities and women. On February 5th, 1958, Clifton R. Wharton, Sr. became the first African-American to lead a United States diplomatic mission as minister to Romania.
