ABSTRACT
This article comments on a study conducted to examine the efficacy of pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) in reducing all-cause mortality in critically ill patients. Randomized controlled trial was conducted on 1041 patients admitted to an adult intensive care unit (ICU) who were identified by the treating clinicians as patients who should be managed with a PAC. Secondary outcomes included ICU and 28-day all-cause mortality, length of stay in the original ICU, total length of stay in an acute hospital ward, and organ days of support in the original ICU after randomization.
