ABSTRACT
The article focuses on issues related to bank mergers. According to Hamid Biglari, head of global financial institutions investment banking at Citigroup Inc., as pressures increase on banks and thrift institutions, merger and acquisition activity among small and medium-sized institutions, particularly, should increase significantly. Another sector in which bankers expect to see more merger and acquisition activity this year is asset management, which might result either from industry consolidation or from buyouts by management.
