ABSTRACT
The article presents a profile of dipropylene glycol (DPG). The fragrance grade of DPG is commonly used as a carrier for cosmetics and fragrances. DPG's fragrance grade consumes more than 19 million pounds of DPG last year, and is the fastest-growing segment at 3 percent annually. Another segment of DPG is the unsaturated polyester resins which consume more than 17 million pounds last year. Here, DPG is used in combination with other glycols to formulate press-molding resins and nonreinforced polyesters. The prices of DPG have been increased several times due to high costs for propylene monomer and natural gas. Tight market conditions and supply-side limitations also contributed to the hike in prices.
