ABSTRACT
This article discusses the use of tobacco as the second-leading cause of death in the world. Tobacco use is responsible for 1 in 10 adult deaths, or more than 4.9 million deaths per year. If the trends in smoking continue, 10 million people will be killed each year by 2020. Factors such as trade liberalization, direct foreign investment, global marketing, transnational tobacco advertising and international tobacco smuggling have resulted in the increased global smoking rates.
